Gaudete - a Christmas song

Gaudete is a Christmas tune, and it's really old. No one knows exactly when it was written. The earliest manuscript we have of it was written sometime in the 1500s, though many scholars believe it dates from earlier, Medieval times.

You can hear the King's Singers' version here:

I've made a version for guitar which some of you are learning. The sheet music is available here:

Full score (all 4 guitar parts together)

And if you have an app on the iPad called Scorch, you can open the scores and hear them by using this file

Go to the 'Moving on' section of the blog to hear versions of Gaudete

new music

Hi all. I've recorded and uploaded another 40 tunes - they are spread out among the three playlists. I've added a count-in at the beginnings of these new pieces so that you can play along with them more easily.

Remember, playing along is not the only way that these can be useful to you. It's important to know how a piece goes before you can really play it. Can you sing the piece you're trying to learn? It's hard to learn it on an instrument if not. Repeated listening can really help you.

listening as part of your practice

All music I'm teaching, including grade 1, grade 2 and music medal is now up and available for you. You can use the music when you practice to:
  • listen over and over so that you really know the piece
  • play along with
And if you like the piece you can click the little heart next to it to say so. I recommend those adults among you to sign up for a free soundcloud account. Then you can follow my page, which means you'll get email notification when new tunes become available. Visit soundcloud

  • Yellow/orange book (a.k.a. your student handbook)
  • a smile :)
Thank you!

Things have changed a little round here...

Hi guys

The idea is that this is a resource for my pupils at Glenfrome, Luckwell and Sefton Park, as well as those i teach privately.

If you're an old visitor to this site you'll notice that things have moved about. I hope things are a bit better organised now, and i've recently uploaded over 40 new pieces. The audio is all in the tabs above now, so click on one and have a look/listen.

If you prefer, you can link directly to the music on my soundcloud page

There are also a few extra bits on the resources page. Please be aware that i can only post sheet music where there are no copyright issues. As far as I'm aware there shouldn't be any problems with what i've uploaded, but if you feel I've infringed upon someone's copyright and that i should take something down, please let me know as soon as possible.

Happy practising!

Neil

This is intended to be a resource for my guitar pupils. Let's see if it works...
